On Sunday the 18th of February, on the final day of the fair, I visited the CPT International Art Fair. I’ve been dying to attend the fair since my first year in Cape Town in 2016 – so to say I was extremely excited for it would be somewhat of an understatement. Leaning more to the introverted side of the personality scale, I naturally was hesitant to go alone – fortunately a friend of mine, an avid art lover similarly to myself, was available to accompany me.
I don’t want to spend too much time going on about how deeply in love I fell with certain exhibitions and the rationales of those artworks – I would prefer to use this post as a platform for the artists to speak for themselves through their artworks. Perhaps I will compile a series of posts, subsequent to this initial post, in which I will discuss in detail the works which I will share below.
I took so many photos so I’ll just be sharing my favourites – the criteria for which is obviously the aesthetic appeal of the work, and its applicability to a social context. I hope that you will find these artworks as poignant and mesmerising as I did. Art in its multiplicity of forms is beautiful and a powerful mean of expression. Art to me is love, freedom and joy. So from me to you – here is a visual compilation showcasing how love, liberation and joy look and feel.
(Unfortunately I did not take down the artwork titles and artist names. Needless to say, none of the art is my own work.)
